There are so many theories and beliefs surrounding weight loss programs and health. But a generic approach can never work for all. It may show some results but to get to the optimum of health and fitness that can be achieved, a personalized program or methodology needs to be designed.
The height to weight chart is also very generic. There are many factors that go into deciding a person's ideal weight beyond just their height. Things like activity level, type of bones, genetic ancestry, lifestyle, kind of work, and lots more. To fit all into the same box is like trying to fit an elephant in a matchbox.
Weight should always be approached holistically. What is the use of losing lots of weight but being physically weak or tired all the time. One needs to be healthy, active and fit, this is what should always supercede weight.
Our obsession with weight makes us do so many stupid things thinking it will get results. To fuel this stupidity we also have all the nonsense advice given by every tom, dick and harry who is an influencer on social media nowadays. Which is lapped up immediately by those desperate to see changes on the weighing scale. These fads that are easily accepted may or may not give results, but the results are not sustainable and over time they will surely affect ones health.
One of the stupidest things I feel that people do is keep checking their weight if not every day then surely every few days or once in 15 days. It just puts unnecessary pressure on us mentally and physically every time the scale seems to be stuck or increases further. Weight doesn't need to be checked ever. Weight needs to be managed by just how we feel physically, emotionally and mentally. That being said many are led to believe by society that they are overweight or they are unhealthy because they don't have a six pack. I understand that we at times can go off the reservation and put on weight or we have medical conditions that have caused us to put on weight. Both are okay and nothing to be ashamed about, they can be worked on and results will follow.
The aim should never be weight loss because that is an unhealthy approach. The aim should be only to get healthier and fitter. Following this process will surely lead to one losing weight if they are genuinely overweight and also tone the body.
Health is what the focus should always be on. Health is not just losing those love handles, or the pimples on the face etc. Health is about how we feel mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. You can have a six pack and yet be miserable mentally and emotionally, how is that healthy?
We have been approaching our health in a very commercially sold manner, which may or may not benefit us but will surely benefit the industries like beauty, pharma etc and not to forget the snake oil salesmen and women of social media.
The most common mistake after checking ones weight regularly is that most of us are not truly happy with the body we live in. We are always comparing our body parts, our skin etc with others thanks to the fake standards set up by the beauty, supplement and pharma industries. Love the body that you are in. Love it irrespective if you are fit or out of shape. Value it, give it gratitude for it is the only place we can live in. Once we accept and love our body the way it is, then we can start to work on making it better. By better we shouldn't follow the standards set by the industries and society but by how we feel without letting the brainwashing affect our decision. Not all can do this and this is where a good trainer can help and guide you.
Once we begin to love our body then we need to work on optimising every aspect of it from sleep cycles to diet, from exercise to mental health, from emotional well-being to a better digestive tract. It always has to be a holistic approach. Only if it is holistic will it be sustainable and last in the long run. As this will change our lifestyle, the way we breathe, walk, sleep and live. Anything else will just be a phase, a phase that may last few weeks, months or years.
Start your beautiful journey to a better you by throwing out the weighing scale and truly loving your body. Then try to find a trainer who understands and believes in all that is written above. Who will not just show you exercises but can guide you mentally, emotionally and spiritually too. Who understands how the body functions not just externally but also medically. Work with them and get healthier and fitter than you were yesterday. Getting better one day at a time.
Wishing you all a wonderful walk on the path leading to a better you.
Train like a warrior to be a warrior!!!!
