Everything in life boils down to mindset. If we wish to be good at anything we need to first fix our mindset. Once the mindset is on point then there is nothing we can not achieve, heal, grow from or excel at. Usually people try to change the way they do things while they are doing it and then once it is done with they let it go. It doesn't work that way. If we wish to do something or achieve something there is only one way, that is - just get it done. There is no other way or I will start slowly etc.
If you wish to be a good martial artist or good at self defense then you have to become it. You can't train few times a week and expect to be good at it. It doesn't matter how focused you are or how much effort you are putting when you train, if it is not your mindset then you aren't going to be good at it. You need to be in that state 24/7. You have to be alert, aware all the time, your situational awareness should be always on, is your head always on the swivel, are you constantly mentally contemplating how you would respond if the person walking ahead of you suddenly turns and attacks, do you comfortably stand with people standing behind you in a queue or do you stand slightly angled so the person behind doesn't get your back, how do you stand in an elevator, how do you decide which table to sit at in a restaurant, how and where you park your vehicle, do you remember vehicles around your house. The list goes on and on. It is a lifestyle, a mindset, it is who you become. Only and only if you start living like this along with proper training will you stand a good chance at being effective at self defense.
If you wish to be good at using a weapon for self defense. First of all that is if the laws in your country permit you to carry the weapon may it be a stick, knife or gun. Then you need to get the required licensing for it. But after that it again comes down to mindset. You can't just train a few hours a week and expect to be proficient at it. Say you wish to be good at using the knife then you need to keep it with you, play with it daily, train extensively with it, become one with it. Get intrinsically integrated with every crevice, every scratch, every aspect of it like it is a part of your own body. Like Samurai's and other warriors were one with their weapon, it was not just a part of their equipment but an extension of their body, a part of their soul. They wouldn't let anyone even touch their equipment. This is the only way.
Every generation is getting weaker than the generation before them. People are getting mentally weaker and moving towards blaming life, situations, trauma etc for why they are like this. But these things have been happening to all our ancestors too. Yes we all have different levels of troubles in our life but those different levels of troubles existed for our ancestors too. They faced it head on , they took steps to get through the storm. They had a mindset and will of iron. We need that in all aspects of our life.
Do you wish to heal from your anxiety, trauma, emotional blockages etc then start right now. Not slowly over time. Change your mindset, make a plan, visualize your goal, work towards it. It should become who you are. Then and only then will the trauma's, anxiety etc heal.
Do you wish to stop any addictions then stop smoking, drinking, consuming any drugs or whatever you are abusing your body with and are addicted to. Not tomorrow, not slowly, not by I will reduce it slowly over time. Decide today and never smoke etc ever again. Come what may stick to the decision. Keep your mind strong and work on ways to help your body heal from the addictions.
Do you wish to grow your business or excel at your career then you need to become that. You can't be a part time entrepreneur and expect to build an empire. You have to breathe, think, live your business and then you will grow in your business. It is a completely different story if that madness to grow your business messes up other aspects of your life.
It is the mindset and mindset alone that separates people who excel in anything in life or in life itself. Either you really want something or you are just trying to convince yourself that you are trying to get out of it or get good at it etc. It is now or never. Always select now because never, never comes but it just pulls you down the same deep hole you feel stuck, trapped etc in.
Sit somewhere by yourself, breathe deeply, calm down, then make a plan of what you truly seek in your life physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually. Then make it your mindset and just walk the path, come what may. It will seem difficult at times but stick to the path and the results will come for sure.
