It is all in the way you move!!!!

Footwork is one of the most important factors in all martial arts. How you move not only determines the efficacy of your technique but also tells many things about you that a seasoned or well trained martial artist can read and use to their advantage.  We need to work on improving the coordination between the hands and legs. To make them free flowing like a beautiful dance. The power in our punches or any other strikes with the hand also depends heavily on the footwork. Too broad a footwork or too close by, can both affect the power of the strike but also cost us our balance.  Every time you train do focus and ensure that you are doing the exact footwork as asked by your instructor. Even a slight deviation can make a huge difference. Some are very rigid and some just very casual about the footwork. It is the perfect balance that is what we need to seek. It doesn't matter what movement, technique or combination we are doing, if our footwork is on point, it looks ver...

To kick or not to Kick????

Kicking is an integral part of training in many martial arts. It is a wonderful form of exercise too. Strengthening the foundation, improving balance, increasing leg strength, improving body movement, are just some of the many benefits we gain from kicking.  Kicking regularly improves ones dexterity. It helps one move better, which can play a great boost to your punching and striking abilities. No wonder that even martial arts like boxing that have no kicks give lots of importance to skipping, as it helps the boxer move smoothly. In competitions it can be a powerful tool too. The more we train the more effective our kicking skills can get. It can make a huge difference if one has a good collection of kicks, especially to get points in a competition, since many martial arts give higher points for a kick to the head etc.  However if kicks are something useful in a real life situation is a debatable subject. Kicking anywhere above the belt in a real life situation on ...

It is all about the MINDSET.

Everything in life boils down to mindset. If we wish to be good at anything we need to first fix our mindset. Once the mindset is on point then there is nothing we can not achieve, heal, grow from or excel at. Usually people try to change the way they do things while they are doing it and then once it is done with they let it go. It doesn't work that way. If we wish to do something or achieve something there is only one way, that is - just get it done. There is no other way or I will start slowly etc.  If you wish to be a good martial artist or good at self defense then you have to become it. You can't train few times a week and expect to be good at it. It doesn't matter how focused you are or how much effort you are putting when you train, if it is not your mindset then you aren't going to be good at it. You need to be in that state 24/7. You have to be alert, aware all the time, your situational awareness should be always on, is your head always on the swi...

Importance of Self defense training for all.

Self defense training is a life skill that is very important for all to learn irrespective of age, gender or fitness levels. It is the training to be ready and prevent being a victim of a violent assault or crime. Self defense is about how we respond in the first 10 to 15 seconds after being physically attacked and also about the few minutes prior to that.  Very often the attitude of most people is - Why do I need to learn all this, we have the law to protect us and it won't happen to me. Yes we do have a wonderful law enforcement departments like the police and the judiciary to protect us and give justice etc. But we are our own first responders. There is no police patrol vehicle following each of us to protect us as soon as something happens. Self defense training is exactly for this time zone between being attacked and the police coming to the scene to protect you. We need to train for this exact moment on how to respond when attacked violently and prevent ourselves ...
